Dr Femi Owolade
I am a historian specialising in British colonialism, legal pluralism, and their enduring legacies in postcolonial Africa. My work explores how colonial legal infrastructures continue to shape contemporary legal orders and inequality.
I am Associate Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. Previously, I held research positions at King's College London, University of Leeds and Sheffield Hallam University. I completed my PhD at King's College London. My book, Legal Pluralism as a Colonial Project in Africa, will be published by Routledge in 2026. My commentary has appeared in Al Jazeera, Times Higher Education, and The Conversation.
